General Information about Southdale School
Ossett Southdale C.E. Controlled Junior mixed school was built in 1907 and is situated approximately half a mile from the centre of Ossett. The school has a catchment area and places are normally available for children living within this area. Parents living outside the catchment area who wish their children to be admitted must complete an Admission Preference Form for consideration by the Director of Education.
The school is open to boys and girls, aged 7 to 11 years, who then normally transfer to Ossett School, unless the parents wish them to attend another school. Ossett School is an 11 to 18 High School and 6th Form College offering a full range of courses up to and including A level.

Mentoring - Southdale Junior School is a committed mentoring school. We believe that we can play a valuable role in the development of new teachers through the support of our experienced, caring and supportive staff. We also believe that we can further develop our own teaching skills through the sharing of ideas and good practice with student teachers and with each other.
Healthy School - to encourage healthy eating habits, children are not allowed sweets or crisps during break times - fruit only. Children are encouraged to bring a bottle of water to rehydrate during lessons. We ask that they do not drink while the teacher is talking. Bottles should not be refilled during the school day.
PTA - There is an active and very supportive PTA, and the school hosts a number of fundraising and social events each year. We welcome parents in the classroom and as partners in the education of their children.
